Polytetraflouroethylene (TFE) and Kynar - PVDF both are in short supply.
PTFE - Polytetrafluoroethylene product PTFE (TFE) and PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar which is mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide interest in this mineral has increased significantly, and also the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and extremely low co-efficient of friction (slick) and is used in a lot of applications from non-stick fry kitchenware to ptfe tape for personal use. This mineral is actually the crucial raw material within the manufacturing of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and many refrigerants. This increase in demand mixed with general shortage of raw materials is responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double during the last year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to keep at it in the near future.
